Sunway Resort Hotel Goes Green (On the Menu!)
/Who says luxury can't be plant-based? Certainly not Sunway Resort Hotel, which has just snagged a coveted vegan-friendly certification, making it a delicious pioneer in Kuala Lumpur's evolving hospitality scene.
From Training to Table: A Vegan Victory
Before diving into the mouth-watering menu (spoiler alert: there's chocolate!), let's peek behind the scenes at what made this certification possible. As part of the vegan certification process, the hotel staff underwent comprehensive training with vegan and sustainability food consultant Anna Lees. The training covered everything from vegan service excellence to ensuring guests hear about plant-based options right from check-in, including details about breakfast buffets and room service choices.

The Menu That's Making Waves
Hold onto your forks, food lovers! Here's what's cooking in Sunway's vegan kitchen:
Starters That Steal the Show
Keto Tempeh Salad - A powerhouse combo of tempeh (that's fermented beans for the curious, very popular in Malaysia), avocado, grapes, cherry tomatoes, cucumber, and plant-based cheddar cheese, all dressed up in apple dressing
Mushroom Soup - Because sometimes you just need a classic, served with garlic bread for good measure
Bites That Bite Back
Kale Hummus - Not your average chickpea spread! This creamy kale and chickpea purée comes with grilled Arabic flat bread
Truffle Fries - Regular fries? Please! These come with plant-based truffle hummus dip
Pasta Perfect
Primavera - Gluten-free spaghetti playing nice with seasonal vegetables and extra virgin olive oil
Bolognese - Gluten-free penne pasta getting cozy with plant-based Bolognese sauce and dairy-free cheese
Main Event
Vegan Burger - The heavyweight champion: home-made bun, plant-based patty, plant-based cheddar cheese, avocado, tomato, lettuce, and fries on the side
Plant-Based Kofta - A Middle Eastern twist: minced vegetable skewer with Arabic spices, served with garlic flat bread, cucumber salad, and fries
Sweet Finale
Baked Chocolate Tart - The show-stopper: Adzuki Bean Chantilly, cocoa powder, red beans, soybeans, vegetable oil, sugar, non-dairy cream, and fruits
Black Tap: Where New York Meets Vegan in Style
The vegan journey continues at Black Tap, the award-winning restaurant brand making its Malaysian debut at Sunway Resort Hotel. Known globally for their craft burgers and world-famous CrazyShake® milkshakes, Black Tap brings the soul of a classic American luncheonette to KL, complete with 80s and 90s hip-hop beats and street art vibes. The space itself is a feast for the eyes, featuring stunning murals by celebrated Malaysian street artist Kenji Chai, whose iconic work has become a defining feature of urban landscapes across the country.
And vegans, you're in for a treat! Black Tap's plant-based offerings include their hearty black bean vegan burger and fresh salads. But the real showstopper? Their vegan Chocolate Shake - a masterpiece sporting a vanilla frosted rim with mini chocolate chips, topped with a black 'n white cake slice, whipped cream, and chocolate drizzle. It's a treat that tastes as amazing as it looks on your Instagram feed.
Meanwhile, in the Tech Corner...
While the kitchen's going green, the rest of Sunway Resort Hotel is going sci-fi with some seriously impressive upgrades. Picture this: contactless check-in, keyless entry, motion sensor night lights, and even specialist "iButlers" (yes, that's a thing) ready to set up your gadgets. They've also got chromotherapy showers - because regular showers are so last season - and smart curtains that probably know more about interior design than most humans.
The Green Scene
The hotel's sustainability game is strong too. They're rocking solar panels, motion-sensor LED lighting, and have shown single-use plastics the door. They've even gone paper-free, which means trees everywhere are breathing a sigh of relief.
As the first vegan-certified hotel in KL, Sunway Resort Hotel isn't just serving meals - they're serving up a slice of the future. And from where we're sitting (probably in their glamorous lobby, plotting our next CrazyShake® adventure), that future looks deliciously promising.
